As I bloom, may I seek to understand the way my body works and joyfully accept my fertility as a beautiful and amazing gift.

Bloom is designed for girls ages 11 to 15.

Set of flowers, leaves and branchesBloom is for girls who are cycling and corresponds to the learning stage of Puberty, as listed in The Pontifical Council for the Family’s document, The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality.

Bloom uses an ovulation method approach to enable  girls to accurately determine when their menstrual period is due.  Bloom teaches girls to observe, chart, and interpret 3 cycle signs and 3 cycle symptoms.

Cycle Signs

healthy, normal signs given by the body that are caused by the hormonal changes which occur during the menstrual cycle

menstrual bleeding

cervical mucus

intermenstrual signs

Set of flowers, leaves and branches

Cycle Symptoms

symptoms which occur during the menstrual cycle that tell us that the menstrual cycle is not working exactly the way that it should

menstrual cramps

premenstrual syndrome

unexplained symptoms

The cervical mucus observations in Bloom are more advanced than in Blossom, but are still simple.  Bloom teaches the girls to distinguish between 2 distinct types of cervical mucus.

In 2 sessions Bloom has taught me more about my own rhythm and pattern and the story of health my own body can relay to me than I have learned in 47 years.  It is wonderful and amazing how simple it is to take control of that knowledge, to own it and let it guide me towards a more confident and wise approach to this most basic reality of being a woman.  It has been a joy sharing that information with my own girls.

While my youngest, 12 and not yet in “need” of this essential knowledge, is squeamish and nervously curious, my eldest, age 15, like me feels it’s a mystery wonderfully explained.

In addition to observation, charting, and interpretation, the Bloom System:

presents fertility as a gift and introduces the girl’s to God’s plan for the feminine design

teaches the girls nutritional and lifestyle strategies to keep the menstrual cycle healthy

and

teaches mothers how to use the Bloom Chart to monitor their daughter’s reproductive health.

Bloom is an amazing program that enables mothers to teach their 11 to 14-year-old daughters only the basics of NFP which they currently need to know to help them understand and appreciate their growing, changing bodies. The information is educational but also helps young girls feel more confident about what their bodies are doing, why it’s happening, and when to expect specific events.

I love how the program empowers mothers to teach their own children rather than leaving it up to someone else or having the children figure it out on their own. Bloom opens up the pathway for healthy communication between mothers and daughters about sensitive topics while they are young, setting the precedence for later years and even more sensitive topics. It also lays the foundation for further NFP study should the girls choose to delve deeper into it once they are older.

What does a Bloom Chart look like?

Mothers can teach Bloom to their daughters at home or mothers and daughters can attend a seminar together!
