What is cycle awareness?

Cycle Awareness gives girls knowledge about how their bodies work.

Cycle awareness is a special form of Fertility Education, written for girls and young women.   It is based upon the same scientific principles upon which modern Natural Family Planning methods are built.  Cycle awareness teaches girls how to observe changes in the body that occur from the action of hormones.  These changes act as special signs that enable the girls to identify what is happening in their bodies during the menstrual cycle and accurately pinpoint when the menstrual period is due.

Cycle awareness gives girls knowledge about how their bodies work, and, by teaching them how to observe, chart, and interpret natural signs given by the body, empowers them with the skills they need to truly understand what is happening in their menstrual cycles.

Cycle awareness gives girls a true vision of the gift of fertility and God’s plan for femininity, in an age-appropriate way.

Fertility Education is all about learning how the female body works!  But, it is about so much more than that . . . Learning about the gift of fertility is also about discovering who you are.  Fertility Education teaches women about how they were created; it teaches them about their unique feminine design.  Learning about the gift of fertility is all about discovering what it means to be a woman and coming to understand God’s plan for femininity.  Cycle-awareness  gives girls a true vision of the gift of fertility and God’s plan for femininity, in an age-appropriate way.

Cherry Blossom Buds has its very own cycle awareness program for girls and young women,  Cherry Blossom Teen Charting.  Cherry Blossom Teen Charting is divided into three distinct age-appropriate systems, corresponding to different stages of development, as listed in The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality.

Blossom and Bloom are sister programs, both written for girls whose stage of development is Puberty.

  • Blossom is for girls who are awaiting the first menstrual period.   It is written for girls who have begun to show outward signs of puberty, such as budding breasts and pubic and armpit hair, but, who have not yet begun to menstruate.  Blossom teaches girls to observe cervical mucus and (with their mother’s guidance) basal body temperature to pinpoint 1 to 2 weeks in advance when their first menstrual period will start.  Blossom is a very simple program with very simple observations

  • Bloom is for girls ages 11 to 15.  It is written for girls who are cycling.  Bloom uses an ovulation method approach to enable girls to accurately determine when their menstrual period is due.  The cervical mucus observations in Bloom are more advanced than in Blossom, but are still simple.  Bloom also teaches girls how to accurately identify premenstrual symptoms and offers nutritional guidelines to keep the menstrual cycle healthy.

Beauty Reavealed is geared for young women of high school and college-aged, and so, corresponds to two distinct stages of development, as listed in the Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality: Adolescence in One’s Plan in Life and Toward Adulthood.

  • Beauty Revealed is for young women ages 16 to 22.   It is written for girls whose menstrual cycles are approaching or have reached the reproductive stage of maturity.  Beauty Revealed uses the same interpretation technique as Bloom; but, in addition introduces the young women to charting the additional signs of vaginal sensation and basal body temperature.  Beauty Revealed also introduces the young women to God’s plan for love and sexuality by teaching them the theology of natural family planning.

Cherry Blossom Teen Charting was written by a certified Natural Family Planning Instructor and Certified Health Coach.  The system is designed to enable mothers to teach cycle-awareness to their daughters with the support an NFP instructor, if desired.

Cherry Blossom Teen Charting upholds the great dignity of God’s plan for love and sexuality and DOES NOT teach the girls how to identify the fertile and infertile phases of the menstrual cycle.
